Can I bring my iPhone overseas?
I'm from the US and going to Spain in the Spring. Can I take my iPhone without being charged crazy roaming fees? I just want to use the apps. Some people have told me that as soon as I turn it on in Europe I'll be charged insane amounts on my phone bill.
When using apps you can still be using information, and that will lead to roaming chargers. You should upgrade your plan or leave your phone at home.
Just get a local Sim and use it

When I moved to another country my US iPhone would not work by just simply placing a local wireless company chip in it, so I had it unlocked and now I can use it where I live now. The only time I could use my phone out of the US before was on airplane mode and connected to Wi-Fi. I could Skype, but again needed Wi-Fi. It's better not to turn it on because if a text or phone call comes through then you will have to pay a pretty penny and good luck trying to fight that with the wireless company.
