Is Iphone to Iphone texting free overseas with Imessage?
So I have a friend who lives in the UK and I live in the US. He has an Iphone and I just got one. Can we text for free over Imessage? Will it cost money? And if I text him, is there a way to tell if its costing me? I really need help.
IMessage is specifically designed not to spend you any money in the way a normal text would. The way it works is with the Internet, so iMessage is really more like an online instant messenger or email than a text!
So no, it won't cost you like a text would, and it depends if you pay for Internet or not on your phone, but if you had unlimited Internet iMessage would cost you nothing.
It is good for oversea messaging. Sorry, I think the costs vary on EVERYTHING, even though its only the Internet and I suspect its not a lot. Like specific place, time, the Internet you use, the contract you're on… So I couldn't tell you!
It's free. The way you can tell if it uses iMessage (free) or SMS (costs money) is that if it uses iMessage the other person's chat bubble, name (when first making the message), and the Send button are blue, and if it uses SMS it's all green. When you first put in his name/email/number, it might show as green for a second but it should change to blue (before you send it) when it realizes it's iMessage.
If you're concerned, of course, you can always text over Facebook or IMO or something like that for free.
Imessage is always free, even internationally. By the way, turn off the settings option that says "send as regular text when imessage not available" just to make sure in case its ever down you don't get charged if it converts to regular text message (it will turn green if that happens and you have that setting on)

SO if i text an iPod Touch user that uses iMessage will it get pulled into my 500 count? Cuz the iPod Touches don't have a carrier… So i don't know what to think.
