Can I bring my Polaroid camera on an airplane?

Ok so I heard that since my old Polaroid has film and its the old kind where the picture comes right out when you take it, that the security x-rays will damage the very expensive film. With that being said I wanted to put it with my others luggage that I will not be carrying on. But I'm flying out of Philadelphia international which is known for frauds stealing things from your bags when they go through them, so it's either ruin the camera, take the risk of getting it stolen or just leave it home and use my iPhone as a camera.

Why take it if you have a digital camera (on your phone)? Polaroid's are cool, but its' more a novalty, it's better to have digital formats IMO, unless you want to use the Polaroid for a specific project.

That's bad if they are stealing items from peoples luggage! I never lock my bags and have flown all over Europe and Asia, and never had any problems.

You need to find out if that rumor you heard is true. Use the Consumer Electronics category and enter a question about this in the Camera section. That way you can find out if it is safe to take your Polaroid in your carry-on bag. Most of those rumors about the x-ray damaging this or that are false.

X-Rays used in checked baggage will ruin film. Put it in your carry-on and it will be fine. As for the camera, you can put it in your checked luggage as long as there's no film in it. Half of the baggage scanners won't even know what they're looking at, the other half won't care about a cheap Polaroid.
