Can i buy a blocked iphone from america to use in england?
I want to buy an iphone 4 off ebay (ebay usa) because it is way cheaper than buying in the uk.
so if i bought an iphone 4 with a 'bad esn' and had it flashed/unlocked in england would it work?
i would buy it off a top rated seller so don't worry about scams.
"Bad ESN" means that it is a Verizon phone and does not have a SIM card tray if it is in fact a 4 and not a 4S. There's no way to use it in the UK as it will not support GSM carriers. That's why Verizon iphone 4 is so cheap. 4S on the other hand can be unlocked with a Gevey adapter.
If the iPhone has an ESN, that means it's not a GSM phone.So, you can't use it in the UK, because the UK doesn't have any networks that use that kind of phone.
ESNs are use on CDMA phones used by companies like Verizon and Sprint. In the US, all the carriers have GSM networks, which means the phones use SIM cards. ESN-based CDMA phones don't get unlocked, and you can flash them, or do anything to them that will make them work in the UK.

Apple does that on purpose so people in the UK can't buy cheaper phones in the US

I was just browsing around on the Apple site, and I was having a look at the iPhone 5 when I realised that I was on Apple USA site not the UK, and switched to the UK site. The iPhone 5 on the US site said from $199 but when I went on the UK site it said from £529! That is like $788 dollars! Why the hell is the iPhone 5 (and basically any iPhone model/apple product) so much more expensive in the UK? 199 dollars and 788 dollars is a huge difference.
