Can I buy an iphone from apple and then activate it with verizon free of cost?

I have a 2 year family plan and I'm not eligible for an upgrade. I broke my phone today and want to get an iPhone. If I buy it from apple can I then activate it with Verizon with no extra cost except for the $30 per month data plan?

No. You would have to dish out a lot of cash.

Following your plan described above: First, you would go to Apple and buy the iPhone for the no-contract price of $600+, then go to Verizon, pay them the break-contract fee of a lot, and still pay for the plan.

But, if you want an iPhone badly enough, just go to Verizon, tell them you accidentally broke your phone and want to got the iPhone now, pay them the fee for leaving/breaking your contract, buy the iPhone with the contract price of $200-ish, and put it on your plan.

And whatever you do, wait for the iPhone 5 if you can. It's going to be released soon (like Sept. 21-ish soon).

You can buy the phone separately and activate it as part of your plan but you have to get a smartphone plan as a data plan is now part of it. Call them and see if you you can extend the contract as a smart phone plan and see if they will pick up most of the phone cost as they do with a new contract, won't hurt to ask.

Verizon and ATT phones are very different. They are not compatible with each other. So getting an AT&T phone then try to activate it with Verizon, it won't work.

The best thing to do is look for some good promo codes and try to get a good deal. I always use http://www.MoneyNing.com to find promo codes.
