Can i check if an iphone that was given to me is stolen?

Yes
Enter a site like MAzooma.com
And pretend too sell it too them
It will ask for iemi number
This will tell you if stolen or not

Not really but if your suspicious go to a police station or apple store.

If an iPhone has been stolen (or any phone at that) it will be blacklisted in a very short period of time. Basically this means it will be reported stolen and the IMIE number will be reported as stolen, therefore you will not longer be able to receive networks or 'signal' on your phone making it useless. Blacklisting is done to prevent people stealing phones, as they know that once the phone is blacklisted you will be able to do nothing on it except things which do not require connection. Take it to the network that its locked to (or if its not locked take it to a phone shop) and tell them the IMIE number. They will check the blacklisted database for you. If your IMIE number is not on there your phone has not been blacklisted. Do this again the following week. If, yet again, your IMIE number is not there the phone has not been blacklisted and therefore is not stolen. The chances are if its not blacklisted already its not stolen. I mean, if my iPhone was stolen, id report it straight away and it will be blacklisted within the same day.

You will know as soon as you try to phone with it as if it has been reported lost/stolen then it will be blocked.
