Can I convert a brand new iPhone 5c from Verizon to Straight Talk?

There are brand new iPhone 5c's being sold for only $45 at Walmart Thursday night for their pre-Black Friday sale. I'm hoping to buy one since that is a great deal. But they only come as a Verizon Wireless phone. However, I know that you can switch a Verizon phone over to straight talk with straight talk's special sim card. Verizon plans are way too expensive for me, so I need it to be Straight Talk. I looked up how to transfer it like this and I read that you need to call Verizon to get an unlock code from your plan there. So I'm wondering… Do I need to set up a plan with Verizon before I can transfer it to Straight Talk? Or will I be able to switch it to Straight Talk before I even activate the phone?

You don't understand how this works. You get the phone for $45.00 ONLY when you agree to a 24 month Verizon contract.
