The civil/criminal distinction someone else has made is not true. There's certainly a civil (i.e. Personal/contractual) consideration here. Depending upon what you mean by "bad", there may also be a criminal element. I imagine that is why you are asking. If you're in the US, The Uniform Commercial Code Article 2 would be the place to look to see if the person who sold it to you has broken the law; if you're in the UK, it's the Sale of Goods Act 1979. If you're elsewhere, there will be something equivalent. But reading statute law like that is tricky. If you know someone who knows the law, ask them. Or provide a little more information here.
