Can I get a text plan only with Verizon iPhone?

I have a Verizon iPhone 5 I would like to have texting and possibly calling but due to a limited budget, I'm being very cautious of my spendings. Is there a plan out there which I could use with this phone to have this plan I desire? Would it be best for me to have my phone unlocked?

  • Is the Verizon edge plan a good plan for me? I have the iPhone 4 and really want to upgrade to the 5c or 5s --not sure yet. Anyway, I also would want to upgrade to the 6 when it comes out. Should I get the edge plan so I'll be able to upgrade it or should I wait all the way until the 6 comes out?
  • Does an iPhone C need a plan to go with it? Or can I get it without the plan? Me and my parents are looking into getting me an iPhone C and we were wondering if we can get it without the plan with it… Please Help!
  • Cancel Verizon text plan bc of IMessage? I have an iPhone on Verizon and so do all of my friends that I text message. I use iMessage with all of them and I was wondering why am I paying $10 a month for something I don't use? I do have one friend I text once in awhile that doesn't use iMessage but has Verizon. Can I cancel my text plan and just use Verizon to Verizon or iMessage to iMessage? Fyi. I don't have Wi-Fi I just use the 3G, but I have unlimited data.
  • Can you buy a prepaid plan for verizon then get an iPhone and activate it? My friend recently gave me his old iPhone 4. I can't activate it because I don't have a data plan (lame!). I can't get my own plan because I'm not 18. If I get a prepaid smartphone plan, could I activate the iPhone 4 with it after?
