Can I get my apple earphones to work with my windows laptop?

Hi! I've been googling for hours and I can't solve this issue. My laptop has a combo mic/earphone jack and I have a pair of apple mic/sound combo speakers that apple gives you when you get an iPhone. I want to use these earphones for Skype. Either my laptop is stupid and doesn't realize I have headphones in and there's a mic embedded in my earphones or something's up. Is there a way I can get this to work?

Of course, Apple help tells only how to set up "System Profiler" microphone and headphones in Apple OS computers.
I looked on Internet for headphones with mic from Apple and no connector plug or plugs end was shown. So since you won't tell, I have to guess that there's only one plug to go into an iPhone. I'm guessing that you must CAREFULLY insert the single plug ALL THE WAY into the single hole on your laptop that is for headset (not headphones) connection.

If it doesn't work when you plug them in then, it may be the minor manufacturing tolerances in the plug or socket may make it incompatible.
You may have to get combined headset/mic and either use a Y adapter or get a USB headset

Go to your laptop Manufacturer website and click on Support/Drivers
Input your laptop model info or click on the Detect Button
Select your Windows Version
Download your Audio Driver to the Desktop
Install the driver
If it is a Realtek, after you connect the headphones a popup will automatically open asking you about the device you connected, whether it is a headset, headphones or speakers.
Right click on your speaker icon by the clock and choose Recording Devices and choose your headset as Default Communications Device
Then do the same for Playback Devices
If the choice for headset is not showing, right click the background and choose to show all devices
