Can i make my iphone prepaid?

A friend of mine gave me her old iphone 3 when she upgraded to the iphone 4.since it was locked i assumed it was useless for months. Now i'm here with out a phone i was wondering if i could use this phone and out it on a pre paid plan like boost or virgin?

If You have a GSM Phone (Unlocked) Then yes with Straight Talk http://www.straighttalksim.com/

Yes you can make your iPhone 3 Pre-Paid only if you unlock it though. The only pre-paid networks that would work with your phone would be any GSM network like StraightTalk, Simple Mobile, Solavei, ect. Unfortunately Boost and Virgin are a CDMA network! To unlock your iPhone you can visit UnlockForCheap.com

1. There's no iPhone 3. Its 3G or 3GS.
2. Boost & Virgin are CDMA carriers, not going to work with the GSM only 3G or 3GS.

Yes you can make it iPhone 3 prepaid…

Yes, all iPhone 3s are GSM compatible devices (use SIM cards) meaning you can swap the SIM card out.

Like others have mentioned, you must unlock the phone in order to do this. The easiest way to go about this would be to reach out to your friend and ask if she can ask her carrier to unlock it (I'm assuming the phone is now out of contract).

I also recommend Straight Talk as a great option. Their Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) program will accommodate your iPhone. Their unlimited plan offers unlimited talk, text and data for $45/month.
Furthermore, their service is quite good as they use the towers of the large wireless carriers (AT&T, Verizon, etc.).

  • When I unlock my iphone can I use a prepaid SIM card when I travel? I live in Germany and a friend sold me her iphone 3gs when her contract was up. She said the phone would be unlocked after a certain date but it hasn't yet. If i do this myself will I be able to use any SIM card? I have 1and1 for phone service and when I travel to the states I get a prepaid SIM from tmobile. Will these work on the iphone too?
  • What's a prepaid phone? Can IPhones be prepaid? I'm going to buy an IPhone 4 from my friend and i'm wondering if it can be prepaid? If so do I need anything like a sim chip? & It's not on contract… Or could I just go on a plan without being on a contract?
  • What do I do if I want to turn off everything that can make my iPhone 4S make noise? I want to bring my cell phone into class with me, but last time I did that it started playing music and my friends Siri started working. I just want to bring it in class and not have to worry about having it start making noise and me getting ISS. Please* don't put down that I shouldn't be bringing my phone to class because I really have to. Anyway I want to know all the things I need to turn off in order for it not to make any noise at all.
  • If I can buy a iphone 3 from somebody, can i use it with T-mobile prepaid? The former owner of the phone who is selling it says that they used it with T mobile on the prepaid and on the 2year plan. Would it still be possible for me to use it on the prepaid plan if I got a plan of my own through t-mobile?
