Can I turn my iphone5 into a hotspot without it costing more money?

I have the 3GB data plan for my iphone 5 on AT&T. I have an iPad mini that does not have Internet and I would like to use my phone as a hotspot for the iPad, but will I be charged extra on my AT&T bill if I turn on personal hotspot on my phone?

  • Will using my iPhone's hotspot cost extra money? I have an iPhone 4s (which is up to date on all IOS updates) and I have the unlimited data plan at AT&T. I'm leaving for a road trip tomorrow, and I wanted to turn the hotspot on so I could use that Wi-Fi on my laptop during the trip so I won't get bored. It says I need to set up an account for it, which I will do later… But would any extra charges be added to my bill?
