Can I use imessage for free?

I'm probably going to be buying an iPhone 5 and I was wondering if I could iMessage (and facetime) my friends because most of them live in the USA while I live in Cyprus. Would there be any charge? If we texted over Wi-Fi?

Yeah there's no charge for using iMessage, it's a free service provided by Apple juste like Viber, WahtsApp or other messaging plateforme, just make sure to use while connected to Wi-Fi or 3G/4G network

Always free on Wi-Fi even internationally, and free over cell towers too but you have to have a data plan with your carrier to use cell towers of course. With video like facetime you should always use Wi-Fi anyways.

  • Is it free to use IMessage with your data internationally? Or is that only using Wi-Fi? I have a friend who is from Canada and I'm from the US. And he has an iPhone and so do i. He said that we can text on our phones for free internationally using iMessage, but what I've heard is that it's only free if you're using Wi-Fi. What about your data? Is it still free when I go out and am away from Wi-Fi and use my data? My messages still appear blue when I message him with my data but I'm concerned that it's not completely free when doing so.
  • IPhone can't send iMessage to iPod touch user with iMessage? At random times, whenever I try to iMessage my friend who has just a iPod Touch, where you type in the message will say "Text Message" instead of "iMessage." is there a way to fix this so it will always send as a iMessage instead of Text?
  • IMessage won't send to another iPhone with iMessage? So my iMessage works to all my friends that have iMessage except one friend in particular. He has iMessage on his phone and can iMessage all his friends but he can't iMessage me. We both have iMessage turned on on our phones but they simply will not iMessage each other.
  • If I cancel my iphone can I still use imessage on Wi-Fi? So, if I cancel my cellphone service, then I lose my phone number and isn't the imessages sent according to phone number? How would I be able to send them?
