Is it free to use IMessage with your data internationally? Or is that only using Wi-Fi?
I have a friend who is from Canada and I'm from the US. And he has an iPhone and so do i. He said that we can text on our phones for free internationally using iMessage, but what I've heard is that it's only free if you're using Wi-Fi. What about your data? Is it still free when I go out and am away from Wi-Fi and use my data? My messages still appear blue when I message him with my data but I'm concerned that it's not completely free when doing so.
The part that costs money is cellular data usage. On cellular each message will use some of your data allowance. With Wi-Fi the data skips the cell towers and hits the internet for free through the generosity of the shop you're visiting.
- Will iMessage cost me when I'm traveling internationally but on Wi-Fi? I have an iPhone 4 and I'm in Canada however my standard plan just includes the states. I'm currently connected to my aunts Wi-Fi and I wasn't sure if by using iMessage I would have to pay international roaming rates or if it would be free still since I'm on Wi-Fi?
- What is a good app to use to text for free internationally for the IPhone? I'm going to Mexico in a week and I want to be able to communicate (text, calls) with family in the US while i'm there. What is a good app to download for an Iphone that would be completely free for me and the other person?
- Using my O2 free mobile data in Spain - do I turn data roaming on or will this charge? It's now free to text and call and use mobile data in Europe and I'm on contract with O2 and have unlimited everything. I'm just wondering if on my iPhone I have to turn data roaming on to get this or will this charge me? How does it work? As when I turn on my mobile data without data roaming the 3G doesn't work until I actually turn on data roaming?
- Is iMessage on iphone free internationally? I'm going out of the USA if a few days and is iMessage free internationally? Will i be charged if my leave my "Cellular Data" is on, meaning i will only be using Wi-Fi?
