Can i use my iphone without a data plan? - 1

Can I use my iphone for playing games and surfing the internet strictly using Wi-Fi, without a data plan? I was thinking that instead of renewing my expensive talk and data plan, get a cheap phone to text and talk. But I would still like to use my iphone to play games and surf since I have Wi-Fi both at home and at work. Is that possible?

Yes you can, cause that is what I do.

Yes… It would need to be unlocked though.

Why don't you get a cheap phone, sell your iphone and buy a new ipod touch

Over Wi-Fi, sure. Should work fine.

Yes, get a pay as you go plan. Most give you some minutes and usually unlimited text.

You can use an iPhone for the internet on Wi-Fi even if you don't have a data plan. If you have something like just a call and text plan, you can't use the internet on the network but Wi-Fi will work fine.

  • Can you use an iPhone without a data plan? I've heard you can use the iPhone without a data plan by turning off the data on the phone before putting your SIM card in. My friend has been doing this for a while with a hand-me-down iPhone 3 he has. Does this also work with an iPhone 4? Another friend has given me her old iPhone 4 that I would like to use but I do not want to pay for a data plan when I could just use Wi-Fi. My carrier is AT&T and the phone is an AT&T phone as well.
  • Can I use the internet on my iPhone without a data plan? If I cancel my data plan for my iPhone would I still be able to connect to Wi-Fi to use the internet on it? I don't need to make calls or text off of it, just use the internet.
  • Can I use my unlocked iPhone 4S without a data plan? Is there any way I use my unlocked iPhone 4S without paying for a data plan? Can I jailbreak it to avoid it?
  • Can I use my iPhone without a data plan? I have a "dumb phone" with a SIM card that has the Internet locked. If I put it in my iPhone and turn off location services and all data except for Wi-Fi can I use it without getting a data plan? I did this for another smart phone and it worked fine. I don't know if it will work with the iPhone.
