Can I use my Verizon iPhone 5 in China?

I have a Verizon iPhone 5 and I will be traveling to China in a couple of months (I live in the US) so I'm wondering if I will be able to use my phone for making calls and using apps that require the Internet if I unlock it?

Yes, you should be able to use your Verizon iPhone 5 in China. You'll need to call VZW Customer Service and make sure you have 'I-Dial' enabled on your account (that's a free feature that just enables phone usage outside the US) You can check out rates and more info at the source link below.

You do not necessarily have to have it unlocked to use it in China if you will be doing so on roaming (and they have roaming partners). I travelled to China and my phone was unlocked (so I could put a local SIM in it) but instead I just roamed on the T-Mobile network partners. My phone did not work completely- in some locations I could make calls but not receive them, in others I could text but not call, in another I had full use of the phone and in another it did not work at all.

Phones in China use GMS technology and Verizon uses CDMA so I'm not sure your phone will work there. You can contact Verizon to find out.
