The iPhone 4 camera (it is better in the 4s and the 5 ) has a poor quality Uv filter and so is able to capture images beyond the edges of the visible spectrum that we can normally see, so it can take pictures in low light and using ultraviolet and infrared light sources. For example if you hold up your TV remote and point it at your iPhone while you taking a picture you will see the invisible infrared light from your remote.
Of course these are not "ghosts" but the splotches or blobs of light or color these types of light can produce are sometimes mistaken for something mystical when they are merely invisible to the human eye under normal conditions.

All cameras, including phone cameras are capable of picking up "orbs", which may or may not be ghosts. Determining what you have found when an orb appears in a picture is where the problem lies though, as not all orbs are spirits, probably most are not in fact.
