Can someone hack your iPhone through a pdf file?

I had joined Amino, an app where you can go into different communities based on what you liked. I joined a fitness\health community and after I posted something a girl messaged me. We had talked and all was good. She asked if I'd like a book that she had previously bought, but she could send me it through email. It is by someone who is an actual author. She sent it through email and I use safari to open emails. I opened the pdf and then I saved it to the notes iPhones have. Could I get a virus or have malware installed on my iPhone? Could the person sending me this read messages on my phone or hack into my camera or audio? I had the pdf file on my notes for about seven plus months.

Probably

You are an idiot. A PDF file is not a program. It is a document. That's what PDF means. Portable Document Format. Cell phones have a locked down operation system anyway and are difficult to "hack". You could easily forward this document to a desktop system, with an antivirus program if you didn't know what it was and scanned it. PDF documents are PORTABLE and can be read by multiple programs.

  • Isn't there any iPhone app that actually lets you edit the text in a PDF file? The thing is that all apps I've ever seen let you make annotations only, and not delete one text in order to replace it with another. As powerful as Apple brags itself the CPU in the newest iPhone 6S Plus is (I have that very larger model), isn't there any app that conducts the OCR on a PDF file (or recognizes it in any other way), allowing for actual editing?
