Can you do gigapixel images with an iphone? Any good softwares/hardwares?

I want to take high res pictures. Can you do it with an iphone like you can do with a gigapan and a dslr camera?

Sure you can. Stands to reason.

Now don't you think the best place to find answers to that would be on the Gigapan website? If you are still not sure, then just contact tech support. I never understand people coming here instead of going straight to the source in question.

Gigapixel images can be done with any type of digital camera regardless if it's a DSLR, mirrorless, point and shoot, or the $10 camera module in your $1,000 iPhone.

You can do this hand held simply by taking various images where you overlap each image by about 25%, with a Gigapan or with any other pano head on a tripod. The benefit of using a gigapan or a manual pano head is the ability to remove parallax from the image. Parallax is the change of the background relative to foreground objects. This can be seen by holding your finger in front of your face and closing one eye then the other. You'll see that the finger "moves" relative to the background. A pano head allows you to position the lens at the exact point where this parallax is no longer visible.

The problems you may face with using a smartphone are:
1) all of the images must be focused at the exact same spot
2) all of the images must shot at the same f/stop
3) all of the images must have the same white balance
4) you need to shoot RAW

If your phone, regardless of which one it is, doesn't have the ability to do all four of these things, then your final image will show defects making the image unacceptable.
