Can you remove sim from iPhone 4S when it's turned on?

A courier is picking up my phone today and replacing it there and then, but I want to use my phone up until the point of the swap, so the changeover needs to be as quick as possible at the time of collection (so as not to keep the courier waiting).

I need to take out the sim and restore to factory settings, so can I take out the SIM card while the phones turned on, then start the reset on the phone itself (which'll take about a minute to do), or do I need to turn the phone off to take the sim out, then start it up again to restore?

Added (1). This is an iPhone… The battery is locked in the phone, and I'm pretty sure they're not going to throw it in a bin…

Hi this is not rocket science slide the back off take out the battery as you will need that too.
then slide out any memory cards and the sim card they will do any resetting when they get it back or just throw it in the rubbish can.

No to remove sim you need to take off battery i.e.phones dead…

These other answers are silly as you can't take the back off or remove the battery from an iPhone 4s.

Just use the key (or a paperclip) to open the sim slot on the right hand side of the phone and remove it. Then reset. No need to turn off the phone.

No need to turn off the iphone, properly open slide and remove the sim, insert when you want it back.

Yes you could take out the SIM while its on, but you shouldn't use the phone up to when they arrive as the factory restore will take a while. Should deal with that now as to not keep them waiting as you said.

  • What would you do if you were watching your favorite show, and your 20 year old kid turned off the TV so that you couldn't watch it? I pay all the bills at the house. I normally watch AHS once a week with my kid. This week, she told me to go watch it in my own room. I told her my TV wasn't working and we would just have to watch it in her room. She turned off the TV so that I couldn't watch it. Then, she pompously pulled out her iPhone and proceeded to watch it on her iPhone. What would you do if this happened to you?
  • What happens when you remove the SIM card from an IPhone 4s? My parents want to remove the SIM card from my phone at night so I can't text or call anyone. How would removing it (and then replacing it after about 8 hours) effect my phone, would it delete anything like my messages or call history etc? Also, if this happened pretty much every day would that have any other effects or not?
