Can you text on an iPhone in a cruise?

Can you text while you are on a cruise to the Bahamas? If you have an iPhone and Verizon service!

Not for free. You will have to pay roaming charges

It doesn't matter what provider you have or what kind of plan, all cell phone activity (calls and texts) go through the ship's satellite provider at an extra charge to you which will show up on your bill after you get home. And it's quite expensive, something like $2.49/min for calls and $0.50 per outgoing text.

Once away from shore cell stations YOU HAVE to use the ships satellite system for any/all communications.
You have to pay for the service, which is slow and expensive.
Leave your phone on an it will be clocking up all your incoming message/data etc. AT YOUR COST!

Best suggestion is leave it switched off during the sea voyage until you dock both ways!

Only if you pay the extra rates that the ship charges to connect to their cell tower. We're talking 50 cents a text or more. Plus roaming/international charges form yoru carrier.

Most ships provide cell service of some kind. Sometimes the ship will only have one kind of service (AT&T or Verizon). The single simple fact is that they are going to charge you a hefty premium for it. Usually, it's an additional per minute charge equating to roughly the cost of a first born. The ones I've seen are usually $2.49 a minute on top of your regular usage/roaming charges.

No, you will most definitely be roaming in the Bahamas. Beware! While at sea, your ship will probably activate its cell tower which connects via satellite back to the USA, so while at sea, your phone won't appear to be roaming. (And technically, it isn't.) But the cruise line will charge you dearly for any calls or texts sent or received via the cruise ship's cellular network. The charges won't be on your final bill at departure, but you'll see them neatly added up on your next phone bill.

When in port, you'll be able to access whatever cellular networks are available in the Bahamas. Since you're with AT&T, chances of finding a compatible network are good, since GSM networking (which AT&T uses) is the international standard. You will see a roaming indicator on your iPhone, and roaming charges will be added for phone and text use.

The same is also true of data usage.

It's possible but you'd have to pay like $7 a word
