Carphone Warehouse iPhone 5 Factory Unlock?

I bought the new iPhone 5 SIM Free today - only to realise that Carphone Warehouse iPhones are automatically locked to the first SIM that is inserted into it…

I need to use both a UK SIM card and one from Hong Kong (for living purposes), and I was wondering whether one of these unlocking sites would be able to permanently unlock the iPhone from the first network I try with the phone, or whether I'm stuck with just a UK SIM.

This was a problem with the IP4S and only then the information tat this was the case was buried in the small print

THERE WAS THEN NO POLICY TO ALERT CUSTOMERS WHO VISITED CPW OF THIS FACT
although it MUST have been known by one and all as customer were returning the phone for the very reason

As today is day one CPW if this site is to be believed taken step back into mis-selling
From 2011 to that last time i checked the information was provided BEFORE you entered your card details and was in the small print

21/09/2012 I have NOT entered my details and that small print alerting customer has now been removed

If CPW are selling "unlocked" iphone5 which lock without alerting buyers this is shambolic

You have NOT stated how you found out which will affect any outcome***, save to say it took months for jail-breaking & unlocking the IP4S!

I'm afraid it will take much longer for the IP5

This in my opinion is withholding crucial information which would affect whether the phone was actually purchased in CPW or somebody going to Apple direct.
As only the Iphone is affected can't hide being ignorance as it promotes the fact its phones are unlocked.

  • Is there a difference? Icloud unlock & factory unlock? I've never had an iPhone, what's the difference in factory unlock & icloud? I've seen something about original owners, is it impossible for me to get an unlocked iPhone and simply make a new account and place a sim card inside?
  • IPhone 5 carphone warehouse? I have an iPhone and the lock button isn't working properly so if i take it back to carephone warehouse will they change it and if so do i need to take anything with me

I don't want to buy the factory unlocked iphone 4's so I think I will just do it myself. After I unlock it, will it become and act the same way as the unlocked iphones you can buy from Apple? Also, what is the quickest way to unlock it?
