Chances of being admitted to Stanford University?

I'm a senior in a public high school enrolled in a magnet program. I live in a city which is heavily influenced by gangs, drugs, violence, and it 8.5% high school dropout rate. I was born in Brazil and I'm now a naturalized citizen of the United States. Raised up with a single parent. Don't know if this will help but believe me, influences such as these can have a major impact on academic success.

Anyways, Here are my stats.

3.8 GPA - Not the highest I know. Decent Freshmen/Sophomore years; Straight A+ Junior Year
2280 SAT Score.
Took the hardest available classes.
- 8 AP Classes (including the 4 I will take once the summer is over)
- 8 Honor Classes
Class Rank: 11/490

Leadership/ECS/Sports
- Class Treasurer
- National Honor Society Treasurer
- Junior Varsity Soccer Team Captain
- Junior Varsity and Varsity Soccer Team, Varsity Tennis Team
- Part of a program called BuildOn. Went to Malawi for 2 weeks and built a school for underprivileged children.
- Part of my debate team, won district wide debate against all local high schools.
- Maintain high school website (posting daily schedule, newsletters, etc)
- Created an iPhone application which can be used by students, parents and teachers to access school information and news. 600 downloads at the moment.
- I love to learn, never missed a day of school since kindergarten. (I know this won't help, but just saying)
-I have a passion for Computer Science and plan to major in it.

To be honest, I don't know if I'm well qualified and if it is worth to include Stanford in my application process. May someone please give me insight.

You have a 6.6% chance of getting into Stanford.

If 1000 people applied, only 66 would be accepted.

Stanford now has the lowest admit rate of any college in the United States, and 94% of those who apply are not admitted. It's considered to be a "reach school" for everyone. It's imperative that you apply to other schools. I do still think it's worthwhile to apply to Stanford considering your fantastic SAT score and some of your achievements, like the iPhone application. As Bobby Kennedy said, only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly. Stanford evaluates each candidate within his or her personal context. They understand that a kid from a background like yours has most likely encountered more adversities, and that it would it turn require more effort and perseverance on your path to have accomplished what you have.

They also take into consideration not just how well you've done in the past, but your potential for success in the future. You might have stumbled a bit in your freshman and sophomore years of high school, but you've consistently worked to do better. I believe they will recognize that you have a passion for learning considering that you sought out a place in a public magnet school and have taken challenging classes.

You might qualify for a program like Questbridge. I'm posting the link below. Read through it, and if you meet the criteria subit your application. It will give you a boost in the admissions process for Stanford.

I compiled some of the most relevant info about applying to Stanford on this blog, and it might be of interest to you: http://thesoultodare.blogspot.com/2013/02/applicant-profile-academic-preparation.html

  • What's the chances of actually being able to get a iPhone on eBay for really cheap? There are listings where the bidding starts at 99 cents. I just found one where nobody has bid on it yet, but it still has about 23 hours to go. What's the chances of getting an iPhone 5 super cheap like that from an eBay listing? As the time goes down will more people start to bid? If the seller has good reviews then does the chances of them trying to scam people go down? Or can a seller have fake reviews like you can buy followers on instagram?
  • Song in Monster University Trailer? What's the name of the song in this trailer? I tried shazamming it on my iPhone but the Monsters University Page came up. http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/monsters-university/tv-spot-disco
  • Someone in University stole my iphone, I know where it is? I know where it is, the exact location, pinpointed on a hardware tracker i installed on my device. Can I call for police assistant to get my phone back? Do i call the police and they recover it? What if they ignore my call just like the UK police normally do! Do I go in myself… I know the house. BUT if i inform the police then they do a polite knock and the crook gets rid of the phone! ARGHH
  • Is it safe to order an iPhone to a university campus parcel room? I'm planning on buying a new iPhone, however whenever I attempt to reserve it in order to pick up from a local store, the page says it's out of stock. That's why I want to order online, but I live in a university accommodation.
