Could I delete my iCloud account?

I have a family of 4 and we all have iPhones. My brother and I have iPhone 5's with iOS 7 and my parents both have iPhone 4's with the most recent iOS 6 before 7 came along. We realized that iCloud is charging us $20 a month. However, we don't really need it. We all share 1 Apple ID but we have our phones differentiated such as "joeys iPhone" "moms iPhone" etc. We also have shut off iCloud because while updating, my brother and I kept getting each other's messages. If I delete iCloud off of my iPhone, what will happen? Will all of us stop being charged if we all delete it from our phones? I understand it backs everything up but we don't really need that since we periodically sync our photos to our computers. And I don't recall ever even using iCloud on my computer. I don't think I even have it set up on there.
