Did i commit fraud by false representation?

I bought an iphone with a company that says you have to be 18 or over to have a contract, i have only recently turned 17 and thats when the contract was activated once i was 17 but paid for the phone when i was 16. I told the company i was 18 when i bought it. My parents have recently found out and are saying i could be convicted and get a criminal record. But if the company are getting their money is there really a problem? And if it is fraud what could happen to me? I'm in the uk if that makes a difference

Yes.

Nope you are fine, in fact you actually have a get out clause should you ever need one… Any contract you sign prior to being 18 is null and void…

You know how old you are, don't be a plonker and sign saying you are when you are not, just COULD lead to a huge mess…

Keep paying the bills and this will definitely never become an issue.

Even if, for some reason, you can't keep up the payments, the police (and for that matter the phone company) have better things to do than waste time on such a footling matter.

I wouldn't worry about it but don't do it again. You have technically committed fraud but what you have to ask is what are the chances of getting found out? And if even you are found out what's the chances of the company reporting it to the police?

As you've said yourself, they are getting the payments and in my experience all the time a company is getting their money they don't really care about much else - that's business. The only time they could cause you a problem is if they investigate and that's unlikely unless you fall behind on payments. The provider hasn't really acted in a proper manner either - bearing in mind that phone contracts are a form of credit agreement and they should have done a credit check on you. They obviously didn't because you got the phone.
