Do I need a voltage converter?
I'm going from the US to Italy, France, Switzerland, and Austria. I'm going to be charging my iPhone, Nintendo DS, and maybe using a hair straightener. I have a plug adapter, but it says I may need a voltage converter. Do I need one, and and where can I get one if needed?
Most items nowadays work on both 110v and 220 v, so no need for any transformer.
It depends on the device, particularly if it can accept 240 supply, and if not, how powerful a transformer you need. If you need one, the hair straightener will be the guiding force, as it will use up to a few hundred watts. The DS might have a 120 only supply, but very low power.
You might, if possible, get a European DS charger, and possibly hair straightener.
Your iPhone charger most likely will work with just a plug adapter.
- Will I need a converter or adapter? Need to be able to charge my iPhone. I'm going to the Philippines and our flight also stops in Japan. Should I get an adapter or a converter to be able to charge?

- Voltage regulator VS voltage divider? I want to make a few of those altoids oh sh*t USB chargers. Instead of using the 5V regulators like everyone else does, can't I just create a voltage divider with two resistors? Why though? As long as my Iphone is seeing 5V it shouldn't matter, no? Or is the regulator really some kind of current regular aging device too? Dun think so. And what are the odds of me destroying my cell phone? You think there's circuitry protection of I screw up the polarity?
