IMovie HD supports multiple video formats and allows you to create projects that are tailored to your specific video format. You can use the following formats in iMovie HD: DV, DV Widescreen, HDV 1080i (25 and 30 fps), HDV 720p (25 and 30 fps), MPEG 4 Simple Profile, iSight. (Source from Apple support official website). However, if you don't know the specific video formats that your iMovie can support, you can use a video converter that can convert MOV file to iMovie with optimized presets, this Mac video file converter ( http://www.dvd-to-flash.com/imedia-converter-deluxe-for-mac/ ) can convert video including MOV file to iMovie supported video with optimized presets, I hope it will be valuable to you.
Maybe you can try other freeware, like Any Video Converter for Mac, which is free. You can use it to convert video freely.
Snow fox video converter is also nice
You need to convert the MOV file to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. You can do this with Video to iMovie Video Converter for Mac (file>export). Then you can
move all your files to iMovie'11 for editing.

- MOV file will not copy over to PC from iPhone? I recorded a video today on my iPhone but for some reason whenever I copy it over it does not copy the full file over! There isn't even any pop up to say there's being a transfer. The file is 379MB. I have over 29GB space on my computer! What is going wrong and why won't it copy over the full file? I can't open the file anywhere on the computer because the full file has not been transferred.
