Do I need to change my iPhone?

I'm moving to the California very soon, from Sweden (big change, so excited! Whoop whoop!)

I use the Swedish network called '3' … When I move to California, which I believe uses 'AT&T' will I need to buy a brand new iPhone or can I just swap the Swedish SIM card chip for an American one?

Change the chip

There are multiple carriers that support the iPhone. You should only have to swap out the SIM card. You don't have to use AT & T.

Depends on whether your phone is locked to your current service provider

if you purchased the phone outright from the Apple Store you likely won't need do anything

but

if you purchased on a plan or from a phone shop you should talk to your provider in Sweden and see if your phone is "unlocked" so it can be used for any provider

If you have an unlocked one then just go for a SIM change, as it may work perfect.

No need to buy a new phone, You will be able to use your old iPhone with new Californian local carrier sim card or AT&T. But your iphone is unlocked one.
