Do I need to unlock my iPhone 5 to use it in Japan with a rental sim card?
I'm having a business trip to Japan soon for around a month and I wonder if I can use my iPhone 5 there with the rental sim card from Softbank without unlocking the phone. Please share with me any info regarding using iPhone overseas. Or if you have any other options for cell phone/internet service.
Just check your iPhone is SIM locked or SIM free.
If it's SIM locked, you have to unlock it.
If it's SIM free, there's no need to unlock.
If you want to use iPhone just for wi-fi, there's no need to get SIM card first of all.
It depends on how and when you got your iPhone 5. But you do need your iPhone 5 unlocked to use the SIM of another carrier.
AT&T will unlock your iPhone after 1 year. You call them up, and they unlock. If you have a Sprint or Verizon iPhone, it's already unlocked, so you don't need to go through the process.
Of course, if you paid a premium to get an unlocked AT&T phone, you don't need to unlock something that already is, but you probably know it's unlocked if that were the case.
You need let your carrier help unlock your iPhone, then you can use Softbank sim card

- Will cutting my sim card work to use as a micro sim card? I just ordered an iPhone 4 and I need to cut the sim card to make it a Micro sim. Will it affect it. I have seen a bunch of video and already have the template it for it. I'm using simple mobile. Do you know if anything wrong happen to it?
- Will a straight talk iPhone work in Japan with a Japanese sim card? I'm pretty sure you can put a sim card in it but I was curious I want to go to Japan sometime but it is difficult getting a phone there being a foreigner and it is pretty expensive but I see people switch their sim cards with there phones a lot like with at&t ect. I wonder if that would work the same overseas? Like putting a japanese cell service provider's sim card in the phone? This probably sounds really stupid though but thank you!
- What does 'line rental' mean for mobiles? I have been looking around and various different 24 month contracts for an iphone 4s. I have found some good deals for, say £20.60 a month but with ' £29 line rental '. What does this mean? Will I need to pay more that £20.60 monthly for my phone?
- Locked iPhone and need sim card to use because I restarted it but i don't have the specific sim I need. Please i'm desperate? Ok so my aunt got me an iPhone from Canada but its sim locked and it says I need to insert a sim card for it to work. The problem is i don't have a sim from that specific company that locked it and the only thing I can do is emergency calls and all that. I can't even use it as an iTouch or something.
