Do iPhones Require a Data Plan With Fido?
I was looking into an iPhone 5 with Fido, because the 16gb model is only $180, but I'm not sure if I need a data plan to activate it. The website doesn't say anything about needing a data or iPhone exclusive plan, but some websites, like Telus, do.
I don't want a Data plan, I just want the standard $20/month unlimited text plan.

Considering that the phone is valued at about $700 http://gdeluxe.com/iphone-5-price-in-usa-canada-uk-australia-more/#more-20740, it would be logical that Fido requires a minimum monthly bill of $50 before tax is added. The same applies to all of the major Canadian carriers. It also looks like you must sign a 3 year contract.

I broke my samsung phone, so my brother is letting me use his old iPhone 5, and I went to Fido (the company we've been using for years and both our phones have been with them) and I bought a SIM card for it and activated it, but when I put it into the iPhone, it says that it's an invalid SIM stating that the iPhone is locked to another carrier which if it is it wouldn't matter because it's the same carrier.
