Do police pay compensation if they damage your property?

I was walking home from the pub recently one night and a bloke started on me for no reason, starting saying what you looking at and throwing punches, he was pretty drunk and missed me a few times and then caught me with a kick around the ribs area. By this time I was pretty angry so I started to battle back in an attempt to defend myself. I grabbed hold of him and pushed him away, next thing without any warning I was jumped on from behind by a police officer. My iphone fell out of my pocket and smashed on the ground and my new trousers got ripped as I hit the pavement. The police arrested us both and we both got charged with breech of the peace

Added (1). The broken phone and damaged trousers was a direct result of the cop jumping on my back, I just didn't see or hear him coming. The phone went bang on the ground as he did it

Nope. But you can sue the other guy for your damages -- he started it

Not likely, you can't prove it was them, you could have damaged it at any time.

They didn't damage your property, they didn't touch your phone or your trousers
Claim on your own insurance

You can sue them for compensation but you may or may not win anything, depending on what the judge thinks about the whole story.

Dang, You think the cop would have called out first. Don't they HAVE TO?

No the police do not pay damages. However the "bloke" could be required to pay restitution to you in court.

No and as you were both fighting when arrested a Judge would throw it out of Court.

  • Would this be considered a breach of intellectual property? If an iPhone repair company registered the domain "iChipped.com", while another iPhone repair company operating in the same geographic area already used the domain "iCracked.com" Aren't the words chipped and cracked used interchangeably?
  • Where do random lost property go? Example, if a bunch of kids were play fighting and one of their iPhones fell underneath the car behind the tire and they never found it. Where do i hand it in to? I was thinking the police station or the council.
  • Where can I watch Heavens Lost Property OVA? I like ecchi that shows actual nudity like Highschool of the dead and Maken-Ki and I've been looking for Help that is uncensored and is english DUBBED. Where can I watch it free on my iPhone?
  • Pressing charges for damaged property? I was recently over at a friends house, when her and her boyfriend started fighting he ended up taking MY iPhone and throwing it out the front door shattering my screen and my camera doesn't work. He won't give me the money to get a new phone so I wanna press charges and force him to pay me. Is this possible, if so how do you go about doing it?!
