Do smartphone functions still work in other planets?
If you were to bring an iPhone off to another planet, would you be able to use the camera, compass, watch, and notes on there? If there was no charger, would the phone already be out of battery by the time you get there? What about overheating or radiowaves and stuff like that?
I think it should be
Some functions yes, because the phone itself is an independent computer.
And as long as the alien planet or ship has compatible Wi-Fi, you may be able to access it. Hey, they did in Independence Day!
You seem to be LIVING on another planet right now - so let us know what works, and what does not. And see if you can take a class in physics and electrical engineering - that would help you a lot - maybe no to get back to EARTH, though.
The camera, watch, and notes would definitely work.
The battery would run down at about the same rate as on earth,
so you would want to take along a reliable method of charging it.
The compass could not be relied upon because it is specifically designed to work on earth.
Other planets may or may not have magnetic fields,
and those elsewhere may not be even close to the same as ours.
Earth's magnetic poles have reversed many times in the past
and are either about due or overdue for another flip right now.
When they eventually do reverse, all compasses will "read backwards".
Phones, GPS devices, and other things that contain electronic compasses
could be reprogrammed to correct that problem.
Overheating would depend on the local conditions.
A general answer is of no use for this.
Radio waves (which I take to actually mean the kind of charged particles
we're shielded from by the earth's Van Allen belt)
would be a BIG problem if too many of them reached the phone.
They could easily damage semiconductor junctions in the electronics.
Of course, if there were no cell sites and other necessary support equipment on the other planet,
no phone calls could be made.
They would work on other planets as stand-alone mini-computers, at least until the battery ran out. Charging points might be hard to find! They would only work as phones and network devices if other planets had phone systems the same as those on Earth, 3G, 4G, etc.
Clearly nobody has yet tested that idea - for obvious reasons.
- Why should I get a iPhone over any other smartphone? I really want a iPhone (5c) but they are quite expensive. I was going to ask for it as a shared present for birthday and Christmas but my dad said 'why spent so much money when there are cheaper smartphones which do the same' and I couldn't answer that. Should I get an iPhone? Why are they better? Any other suggestions on other phones! My uses are: music, camera, social networks (fb, sc, ig) and using the internet.
- Why does my iphone's screen not show but it still functions? I have a 3gs that still receives calls and functions with touch and calls and all, but the screen is blank. If i hold the home and power button together for a while, the Apple logo shows up for a quick second and the screen goes blank and the phone restarts (still functions after the reboot but screen is blank). So I don't know what the problem could be as the screen works perfectly when showing the apple logo, so now I'm confused. Somebody please help me
- Iphone has defect screen but still connects to itunes, does the iphone still work? My iphone was ran over by a car and the screen is completely shattered. when i connect it to my laptop, the iphone appears in itunes and i can access all pictures, videos,… now my question is: does this mean that the iphone still functions properly and just needs a new screen?
- If Apple/Iphones never existed, would the smartphone industry still be here? Because Iphone (1st gen) was the first phone that was at least commercially successful. Basically What I'm asking is this: if the company apple never took off, and there never was an iphone or an ipod or an ipad or itunes. Would the smart mobile technology device still be developed?
