Do you still have to connect to Wi-Fi to download on iphone 5s or 5c?

I currently have an iphone 4 and can't use facetime or skype or even update my phone because it says it requires Wi-Fi. Have they changed this with the new iphone or no? I'm going to upgrade my phone and this is going to make or break my decision. I mean seriously WTF would I need Wi-Fi to do things the phone is capable of doing? If I had ***ing Wi-Fi in the first place I would just use the computer and not the phone. It makes my blood completely boil had I known that in the first place I would have just stuck with the Android.

Added (1). But the whole point is I should be able to use the Internet on the phone in the first place. If I have to use Wi-Fi I can just take my computer

Just go to a starbucks for free Wi-Fi or a friends house to install anything you need unless you live in a desert. You can connect your phone to your computer to make any necessary updates.

Apple has gone to a profit monger model of business, so all of the cool innovative things are no longer. This means that anything you hoped to get improved will not be improved.
I moved over to the Nokia Lumia 920 in the not so distant past and LOVE it. No need to jailbreak for cool apps, no dealing with restricted downloads, no Android corrupt, infected or malicious apps to crash my device. The Windows Phone just rocks, so don't waste your money on the iPhone 5 it'll just p*** you off more amigo!
