Does a sim card have to be activated for it to be detected by a phone?
Recently I bought an unlocked iphone off eBay, and I want to try different sim cards with it to see if it is really unlocked. I just want to know if I have to activate the sim card for it to be detected by the phone, and connect to the network.
Fyes
As the phone is unlocked, you can try any SIM card in the phone, you won't have any issue with activation.
1) No. The phone will detect it either way.
2) Yes. If the SIM isn't activated, the network won't let you connect (except perhaps for emergency services).
Yes.

- Iphone 3G: Does phone have to be activated to use Wi-Fi? Have old 3G. Have anther phone for calls. Wanted to see if Wi-Fi could work without activation? Have tried to connect to router doesn't connect.
- How to get into a phone that has Find my iPhone activated but no sim card? Or contact the owner of this lost phone? I found this phone on the sidewalk today and I have been trying to find out who it belongs to. I thought that if I went to get the sim card, I could contact their provider (like ATT, Versizon, etc) and ask them to return the phone. But there isn't even a sim card on the phone. It also has this Find My iPhone thing, so it feels like there's nothing I can do. Any suggestions on how I could get it back to the owner?
