Does apple (company) let you upgrade devices?

I'm actually planning on getting the ipad and i want to upgrade when the new one is released (like you give your used ipad to apple then they give you the latest one, and i know ofcourse that i have to add cash with it) and yeah. And i always see these people in my school that has an iphone and every year they have the latest one. I always wonder if they are just spoiled or that they r just able to upgrade(don't mind my grammar)

Well on the ipad device you can sort of upgrade but its more of we will give you this much for your old ipad and you have to pay the difference with the new ipad

and with the iphone the upgrade is really though your phone carrier what a lot of people do is just renew the 2 year contract to get the new iphone for the price they tell you.

If you want to get an iPad and upgrade it, you might as well buy the latest one or you'll be selling at a loss. The people at your school who have the latest iPhone probably buy them on sale, have relatives who can buy at a discount, have jobs, or are just spoiled.
