Does restore backup mean i will reset my iphone with all the data from my previous backup on it?

I have forgotten my password and locked my iphone so it says 'iPhone is disabled connect to iTunes'. If i restore my phone will I lose everything on my phone? But if I restore backup, will I reset it with everything from my last backup on my phone?

You are not going to like what I'm about to tell you but…

Your passcode is stored locally on your device. When you lock yourself out of your phone the only thing that you can do is put it into recovery mode. Recovery mode completely removes the iOS Software from the device and you pretty much just start of over.
So the good news first. If you restore the device from a backup, the phone will be reset with everything from your back up.
And now the bad news. When I say it will reset everything from I literally mean EVERYTHING. So if your passcode was on your phone at the time of the backup, your passcode will be part of your backup. So when you do the restore you are just going to put the Back up right back onto it and you are still not going to be able to get into your phone.

So, if you want to use your phone you have to set it up as a new device.

That being said, you can get around it (kinda), Import all your photos to your computer, if you use icloud all you need to do is sign back in after you do your restore and that will bring your contacts and calendars and a few other things. All of your apps and music can be redownloaded from your purchase history in iTunes.

After you do the restore, if you continue using a passcode, make sure you turn it off and back your phone up into iTunes atleast once a week, then turn it back on.

  • When you restore an iphone from itunes backup does it restore messages? I need to restore my iPhone 4S in iTunes, will I lose my messages or will it leave the messages from my most recent back up?
  • What does set up as new iphone and restore from backup mean? I have an ipod touch and I have many pictures, apps, and music on it. And now I have an iphone. I plugged my iphone in, and "Set up as new iphone or restore from the back up of" popped up. What happens if I set up as new iphone? What happens if I restore from back up? What do you suggest? I don't want to delete anything from my Ipod or my Iphone. I don't want apps, music, texts, or photos to be deleted. What should I do?
