Does sea air harm electronics?

I will be taking a cruise this summer and wonder if sea air will harm my electronics (camera, iPhone, radio)

It depends on several variables.

Are the electronics out in the open? Are they inside an enclosed area? How long will they be vulnerable to sea air?

If they are out in the open, then yes, they can be damaged from the moisture. If they are in an enclosed area, then the chances of being damaged is slim. If they are going to be used for long period of time, like on a boat or ship for months or years, then there's a slim chance that sea air can harm electronics over time.

If you are just going to be taking a boat ride or a cruise, then I suggest keeping your electronics inside and try not to drop them or leave them out in the open. They will be fine.

Yes it can.
Sea air contains sodium chloride (salt). It is highly corrosive.
You should make sure to protect your valuables from too much exposure to sea air.
You will be fine if they are only exposed for a short time (i.e.walking on the beach).

My friend, I have been sailing tiny yachts for half a century. These last years, I have sailed with GPS, computer (Macintosh) maritime VHF, radio amateur equipment (callsign: LA0HA/MM) camera, mobile phone, etc. And never had any problems with the sea air and electronics.

You will be on a cruise ship perhaps a hundred feet over the sea level. I was sailing up to 6 months with all my instruments… Barely over sea level. Yes, the air above the sea is salty. Yes it can damage electronics. But after a long time! This is why we only use stainless steel screws and bolts on sailboats. But your electronics doesn't risk anything high above the sea!

Here is an idea of how the salinity is relative to the altitude over the sea level: Do you know how to wash your jeans when on a long distance sailing? First you tow it behind the boat for a day or so. You don't need soap, the stream of the sea water will take away any dirt particle. Then after that, you hoist your jeans to the top of the mast. It will dry there but it will also shake away the salt crystals. Otherwise, if you dry it at deck level, the salt will stay in the cloth and your jeans will be wet again the next night since salt attracts moisture.

If you want to see some of my sailing, here is a YouTube video of my sailing from Norway to Spain and back in 1995:

  • Will sleeping with my iPhone 5 in airplane mode harm me? I just got a brand new iPhone 5 3 days ago. Before I used to sleep with my Nokia x6 under my pillow in offline mode. Is airplane mode the same and will it damage me or harm me in any way even if its in airplane mode and under my pillow. I usually sleep with my phone under my pillow because I use it as an alarm and because I like to listen to soothing music before I sleep.
  • Will jailbreaking your iPhone 5 harm phone? If I were to jailbreak my iPhone five will all my apps still work, will my internet work, will my facetime/camera work, will my calls/text work? Like pretty much will jailbreaking my iPhone 5 effect or harm it anyway? Or could I still use it like the regular iPhone that's not jailbroken?
  • Will jailbreaking your iphone 4 harm it in any way? I have an iphone 4 and i'm really thinking about jailbreaking it but iI'm scared that if i jailbreak it, it will mess it up.
  • Why does everybody on electronics? Like every where i go everyone is on there phone, especially girls on Facebook and Instagram like can you not be *** glued to your iPhone - via iPhone.
