Does sending messages from my apple ID on my iPhone use data?
So I just got an iPhone 5 and already had an iPod 4 before. I synced all my stuff so now all my conversations from iMessage came back. These conversations are directed to my apple ID email but I'm using the same email on my phone so I still get them. I tried texting on one of the convos when my cellular data was turned off and i didn't have Wi-Fi and it didn't send, but I could send messages to phone numbers that I just added when I got my phone. When i turned cellular data on it worked.Am I using data everytime I need to send a message on those conversations? Should I make new conversations directed to my phone number? Would it work without data if I did that?
If you are not on Wi-Fi, yes. Its not text messaging through your text service, but closer to instant messaging over the internet. If you are on Wi-Fi, it should not use data. If you need to avoid additional data charges, you need to leave your cellular data off, but you won't be able to use those apps unless you are on Wi-Fi
Texting through your phone's native texting app will NOT use data, but you would need to know what your texting plan consists of.
- Why isn't my Iphone sending picture messages? When i try and send picture messages my iphone says message send failure? Also, 3g isn't working.
- Why is my iPhone5 sending some messages as iMessage and others as Text Messages? I understand that messages are sent as Text Messages when there's no signal or poor Wi-Fi connection. However, I'm successfully texting some people using iMessage but others (still iPhone users) as Text messages. The other person will send iMessages and then my responses will be sent as green Text Messages.
- Why does my iphone use data over night when cellular data is turned off? Every night I turn off cellular data and leave the iPhone on and one day I wake up and check my data manager and see i have already used 25 MB please help!
- Why does my iPhone 5 stop sending messages? It worked for a few days and then last night it stopped sending and receiving texts. But I could still make calls. Then this morning it started working again. But now it is doing it again and it won't send texts. The iMessages won't go through either. I'm horrible with technology so I really don't know what to do. I tried turning it off but it didn't work. And If I do a network or hard reset, then will I lose everything on it? It is a Sprint iPhone if it matters.
