Does the camera really make you look bigger?
READ> okay we'll I have an iPhone 4S my front facing camera I don't look bad at all or that chubby but my back one I tried useing it and I just looked awful. Same when I try to use a typical camera. I can look the the bathroom mirror and not look bad at all then look on a full length mirror an just look beyond fat. I'm not skinny but I'm not fat either. I'm 5'7 and lets just say I'm a very insecure person one trait I can't Stand about myself. And I was just wondering which one is more accurate?
The camera makes you look skinnier
A camera doesn't make you look bigger, incorrect usage of lenses, lighting and posing make you look bigger.
The camera on the back of phones, as well as the entry-mid level point and shoot cameras used by most amateurs have wide angle lenses.
Wide angle lenses, especially the poor quality ones used on cell phones or point and shoot cameras, are subject to barrel distortion, which looks something like this:
That's a pretty extreme example, but if you test your phone and camera on something that you know is straight (like a door frame or wall), you'll notice that straight lines, especially when near the edges of the frame, appear slightly curved. Unfortunately, the front cameras usually have very quality and resolution.
In short, yes, this can make you look different/rounder/bigger.
From what you said, I would guess the front camera is a more normal lens, such as 50mm, that produces less distortion. I can't confirm, as I don't have an iPhone (too trophy wife-y for me).
The best way to get good looking pictures of you is to have someone who understands photography and the principles at work here. If you want to take better looking pictures of yourself, I'd suggest using your "typical camera", but zoom in instead of using it at a wider setting - possibly using a tripod or setting it down.
Depends on lighting and focal length.
- Why does the rear iPhone camera make me look darker? I'm what you call a tan or light brown caramel person and it seems whenever someone with an iPhone takes a picture or recording of me, I come out 2 shades darker than what I'm. Why is this?
- Why does the iPhone camera make my nose look fat? I think I'm pretty good looking. My nose is pointy and thin for the most part, I've never been told I have a fat nose. I have a thin face. But for some reason the iPhone camera makes my nose look huge and my face look fat! I started crying when I saw the picture. I've taken pictures in the past on a regular film camera and my nose looks completely different. Does anyone else have this problem?
- Why does the iphone camera make me look ugly when the flash is off? When i take pictures of myself with an iphone without the flash on i look so bad my forehead and nose look bigger my eyebrows and whole face look uneven my under eyes look darker and i don't look anything like i do in the mirror, but if i take a picture w the same face in the same position it looks 10x better. Why is this?
- What does the iphone 4 camera (with flash) make you look like? Ok so basically I have had the iphone 4s for a while but I'm giving it to my friend and getting the iphone 4 (downgrade, I know!) but I'm just wondering what the camera makes you look like? Does it make you look really yellow and your eyes look white? Or is the flash one of them ones that make your skin look grey? Or is it true to colour? Do you think the camera is good?
