Does the iphone need to be connected to the internet to record the gps of a picture?
If I'm in an area where I have no connection either data or cell will my phone record the gps of a picture
GPS is separate. It uses GPS satellites, no Internet required. However, you will need a clear view of the sky. GPS on the iPad doesn't work well in buildings.
As long as it has a GPS signal, but it will be in coordinates, you will need internet for the phone to tell where those coordinates are.
No. GPS geotagging is done using just the GPS. No internet required. It wasn't always this way though. Earlier iPhones/versions of iOS required internet.
