Does VPN protect iPhone applications?

I have recently gotten into all this "technology" and everything else. I wanted to have more security when it came to my iPhone applications so I was wondering… Does VPN secure the internet connection as well as the applications I'm using? (such as Whatsapp, Viber, etc.).

VPNs secure it to an extent, it's a virtual private network tunnel from your server to the vpn and out to the other servers of the world… Your isp can still see your information, government agencies can still see your information, 90 percent of black hat hackers won't try if they know it's probably not important… Now a tor tunnel inside a virtual box tunneling a vpn with a terminal based web browser is another story lol

No VPN doesn't protect applications, it provides a secure connection from your phone to the service provider of your VPN. Each application would need to have secure connections to the VPN provider which would then connect to your phone securely. So VPN doesn't provide application security beyond protecting your connection to your service provider
