Eligiblity for Our Of Warranty Service?

I have a water damaged iphone 4s and I heard the Out of warranty service is $199. But the apple store worker told me that I can't have it replaced for $199 because I'm not eligible for an upgrade. This does not make any sense to me… I have to be eligible for an upgrade to get it replaced for $199?

When the worker said your not eligible for an upgrade he meant you can't get an iphone 5 for the damaged iphone 4s. I don't think he understood you wanted to repair and thought you wanted to upgrade. You should ask for repair and they should repair it for you. If they still decline that, you should go to staples for example as they have a fix center for probably cheaper than $200.

I have absolutely no idea why the told you that but it could not be any further from the truth. You are correct, the out of warranty price for the 4s is $199.It is possible that the worker at the store was new and does not fully understand policy. If you purchased the phone less than a year ago typically your phone will be under warranty so he might think the phone is actually still under warranty. That being said, any sort of accidental damage voids the warranty. So even though it is within a year, your phone is no longer under warranty. You are eligible for that price. The stores can be a head ache at times. Just call 1-800 MyApple, explain to the call director what is going on and they will transfer you to an Advisor that will be able to help.
They will give you 3 options for how the repair or replacement will take place. First option is called Customer Drop Off, with that the advisor will give you a repair ID, you will take it and the phone to UPS and they will ship them to Apple, your new phone should arrive in 5-7 days.
The second option is called Customer arranged shipping, with that an empty box will be mailed to you, when you get it you will put your phone in the box and mail it back and once again it will take 5-7 days to get the new phone.
The last option is called express replacement. With that, a phone will be mailed to you, you will put the old one in the box and then send it back. This is the only option where you will not have to go without a phone. The downside to this way is that it costs $29 for the service on top of what you are going to pay for the replacement, and there will also be a hold placed on your credit card for about $600, but once your old phone is received the hold will be lifted…
