How can I explain to my parents I need a laptop for school?

My mom won't let me use her laptop. And when I asked for one, she thought I'd just use it for games which I won't. I need it for certain assignments. I'm 16 and l had to type up a English essay all on my iPhone. I have Microsoft on my iPhone but It was hard typing a 3 page essay on a little touchscreen.

I don't know what to do. I can't use the school computer because my mom picks me up after class and she would be angry if I stayed longer to use the school computer. The only other option would be to go to the library but I'd have to get my mom to take me and she doesn't even be at home all the time. I just want my own laptop, the majority of people at school has one.

Tell her you need it for certain assignments or ask a teacher to talk to her. A more drastic approach is to stop doing those assignment and have the school call your mom. Ask her if she cares about your grades and threaten not to do them.

Ask your mom to create a separate login account for you on her machine. Then you can't mess up her data. It's simple to do. If she won't, tell her you will HAVE to stay on at school unless she buys you a laptop.

Have a conversation with her. Explain her why you need it and promise her to be responsible. Ask her to let you use it just once and if she sees you're being irresponsible, she has the right not to allow you use it again.

But you DON"T need it. No child needs a lap top or cell phone so there's no reason for you to have one. You can simply use the library and don't ever need a lap top

And your mom knows you will just play games on it, talk to pedos and the like so there's no reason for her to allow you to have one. And there's no reason for her to let you on her computer

Well an alternative to getting a laptop is buying a keyboard made for the iPhone. They make them and they are regular sized keyboards.

If you HAVE TO HAVE a laptop for school, wouldn't the schools have provided that to their students?

An alternative is to ask your parents if you can sign a contract with them detailing what you can and can't do with the computer? Ask your parents to install a software program which will show your history on the computer. That should prove that you are using it for school.

You could have your teacher tell your mother-- either in a note, or at the next parent-teacher conference. It's an expected skill students must have these days… Assignments must be typed for submission.

Is it possible that your mother doesn't have enough money for a 2nd laptop? If so, then you're going to have to explain to your mother that you need to be at the library to type your paper.

If she still won't help you, you're going to have to try to save your own money.

Depending upon how much money you have, you could buy a very low-priced unit. Look up a PAWN SHOP in your area; they have laptops for sale that are much cheaper.

Rnaybe you can go to a friends house and use theirs

Get a part time job.
