How do I use a different companies SIM card in an iPhone?

My parents got me an iPhone 6 for Christmas this year and were told it was unlocked, but after putting in the SIM card, we found out it wasn't. So when I went to see who the carrier was, so we could get it unlocked, it said it was the carrier we use. Anyone know what's going on?

Have you spoken to anyone at your carrier? It could be that the phone was reported stolen, or the previous owner had an unpaid bill.

Well for one thing I'd look into returning it since something it up either way.

Somethings there don't make sense. If it was unlocked it would accept the SIM regardless. If it is locked to the carrier you are with it would also accept the SIM regardless & apparently its doing neither.

I'd suggest trying another SIM (1) from your carrier & (2) from another carrier to see if the same thing happens with both.

  • Will cutting my sim card work to use as a micro sim card? I just ordered an iPhone 4 and I need to cut the sim card to make it a Micro sim. Will it affect it. I have seen a bunch of video and already have the template it for it. I'm using simple mobile. Do you know if anything wrong happen to it?
  • What would happen if I tried to use a locked iPhone with a different SIM card? I want an iPhone. And I'm thinking of buying one on Amazon.com. I was looking, and one that is "locked" is much cheaper than one that is "unlocked." I was wondering that if I bought this and put a Straight Talk SIM card in a locked Verizon phone, would it work or not? And if not, is there any way that I could get it to?
