How do limit games work in Poker?

I have been playing a lot of no limit poker on my iphone, but I was curious as to what a "limit" game works.

I read somewhere that at my local casino you can play $1-$2 limit, but I don't know what that means

any help would be appreciated

The small blind puts in $1 and the big puts in $2… Then you can only raise by $2 increments and a max of 3-4 times. Or something along those lines.
