How does a human beat a computer in chess?

I heard that the computers can choose the best moves and see many steps ahead. Why bother challenging the computer unless you're a genius like Kasparov? And even he lost. So why do sites like chess.com have a computer player, and why do apps on iphone offer single player vs computer?

With most apps you can choose the level you play against, and there are some that deliberately play a weak move from time to time.
If you play against the highest level, expect to lose frequently, if not invariably.
The best advice (which I have often given on this site) is to stop playing machines and join a club where you will get to play against real people, and where you will have the added advantage of being able to analyse and discuss your games.

Practice.
Availability (people aren't always available when you are).
Fun (some people don't get on well in PvP competitive chess).

Computers today can defeat the vast majority of humans, and some computers are now superior to all humans, including grandmasters.

However, chances are you're not being asked to prove yourself against a supercomputer programmed by a team of experts to specifically defeat you.

Although computers keep getting stronger and stronger, the standard advice for facing a computer still holds:

-Their expertise is brute force, so don't try to out-calculate them.

Which leaves you with principles and the understanding of positions. This is what you want to study if you want to defeat computers. (And have an easier time against humans as well).

Silman has a few very interesting books out, where he approaches the game conceptually and studies the imbalances of the position and suggests winning strategies depending on the situation you find yourself in. (In other words, he teaches how to find the appropriate plan). This is the kind of stuff you want to master if you want to gain an edge over computers:

Computers have various levels of difficulty. Some levels are for beginners, other levels are for intermediates, and some levels are for masters and grandmaster.

  • Why are White People Considered Superior to the rest of the Human Race? I see nothing special special about them. Logic Explains Take 2 iphones. One Black and One White - Would you discriminate that iphone on the basis of hue and colour? No. Simple Logic = Racism Explained
  • Which picture edit app (for the iPhone) do you use to naturally remove any human being? He photobombed himself in my picture? I went to Disneyland yesterday and I can see my friend photobombed himself in my multiple pictures. I still have them on my phone. Does anybody have any recommendations (ideas) for any picture edit app I can use to edit him out? He's standing on the right side of me. (which I can see he ruined the moment for me.) P.S. Yes, I like to take pictures with other cosplayers.

  • What's the most complicated human technology so far? This is for you thinkers out there. Say you could live forever. And you had the exact plans on how to make a technological object. What object would take the longest to build? Remember, you would have to start from complete scratch. That means finding a rock, to mine other rocks, to make metal tools, to make more metal, to then form into everything else. I think an iPhone would be one of the hardest/ longest things to build. What do you think?
