How does iphone go between Wi-Fi and LTE?
Most smartphones have been "taught" to first look for any previously-connected Wi-Fi networks and use them if possible. If none of those can be found -- or the phone can't connect to a prior Wi-Fi network, it then tries to connect to a cell tower. However, if at any time you wander back in range of a prior Wi-Fi network, your smartphone will try to use Wi-Fi again. If successful, your (data) connection to the cell tower is stopped and the Wi-Fi connection is used.
