How many watts does it take to charge an iPhone 4?
I'm doing a project at school about a bike that could charge your mobile phone.
I have found out that the average person could generate about 11 watts / minute on a bike.
So I'm not sure how many minutes it would take to charge an iPhone 4?
It charges from a USB port, which can deliver 1 amp max. At 5 volts, that is 5 watts.
You may be able to charge it at half that or 2.5 watts.
according to the charts I have seen, it will take about 2 hours at the 1 amp rate.
PS, 11 watts / minute is a meaningless number as power in watts is already a rate. If you can generate a steady 5 watts, as I said above, it will charge in about 2 hours.
A man on a bike can generate 200 watts steady state, more for short time periods.
- Is it ok to have a power inverter draw more watts than the battry has? I have a 12v 18 ah battery and I'm expecting to run it for about 3 hrs so then that is 72w coming from the battery, correct? Ok then I have a 200w continues power ac to dc inverter so is it ok to hook them up and can i charge something like an iPhone. Thanks. Sorry i put this in car audio i just have no die where it really belongs
