How much data will this use?
I'm doing some research for 69 year old relative, if she goes on 500 webpages including 100 Facebook pages with photos, skypes for 2 hours, sends and receives 200 emails including half with pictures and downloads >20 apps a month how much data will she use on her iPhone (3G connection)?
She has no Wi-Fi at home nor do I think she has the technology capability to properly connect to free public Wi-Fi. I just want to make sure 1GB will be enough for her.
I don't know of any suppliers that offer a 1gb option however, most do offer a 2gb and that would be more then enough for the use described.
-Web Browsing-
Each page has variable size to load, but most of them don't go over 100kB. According to Google, the average web page is usually 40kB.
400 Web Pages would therefore be around 16MB.
-Facebook Pages-
Facebook images are usually compressed for a smaller filesize, but with all of the content on Facebook including the images, you're probably looking at 500kB per page.
100 Facebook Pages would therefore be around 49MB.
-Skype-
Microsoft said that the data it takes for just messages is very little; less than a kilobyte (kB), but skype calling will maximally take 100kbps upload and download, and video-calling taking 128kbps upload and 512kbps download.
2 hours of Skype would therefore be around (at most) 450MB.
-Emails-
Emails are also variable in size, with plain emails being less than a couple of kilobytes and those with images being up to 5mB (on average).
100 Plain Emails would be about 0.4mB.
100 Imaged Emails would be at most 500MB.
-Apps-
Apps on the App Store are usually about 20mB, but can go all the way up to 100mB, at least for the common ones. There ARE apps out there that is more than 600mB!
But we'll say that for the most part, she will be using at least 400mB.
Totalling all of this, your relative would be using at least 1.38GB per month.
Meaning a 1GB plan will not be enough for her.

- When using Kik messenger on iPhone with your data plan, how much mb does it use? I'm getting an iPhone, and I tend to use kik messenger a lot on my blackberry already. How much mb of Internet does Kik use to send and/or receive messages, and picture messages? Is 500mb too low for someone who tends to use it a lot without Wi-Fi? Answers are greatly appreciated.
- Iphone 6. Data and Wi-Fi turned on. Will apps only run on data? Or, will it use Wi-Fi when available? It seems i'm burning through data. I tried turning off data to an app i was using when i had Wi-Fi while cannected to Wi-Fi and continually received a message to ho to settings>Cellular>Cellular Data>Use cellular data for>then a selection of aps like safari, google maps, ap store… With cellular data turned off or if just the app chosen not to use data. I was unable to access when connected to Wi-Fi.
