How should I get a credit card?
Annual credit report.com said my score was 650 in 2007, at age 20. I closed the account (high interest, low limit, no fee, sparingly used) soon after, bought an iPhone, recession happened, never found a job, then owed hundreds to AT&T and an ambulance, which I can't pay even a fraction of till next year (also, I wouldn't know how to contact the collection agencies anymore and they might not know my info by now either)
I had $20-100 of library fines for much of the time from high school to this very moment, though never more than $50 each library system, though I paid them off at least once (while an adult).
Other than that never enough debt to go bankrupt or get a lawyer involved. I'm not /that/ stupid. I don't like to break contracts, or pay too much interest.
But I'm moving to a cheaper part of the state and really really need one, I don't even have enough for security deposit. So a way likely to accept me is good as being denied or even applying makes your credit score worse, right? Even a $250 or $500 limit with annual fee and high interest would be really helpful to me right now. Though I don't want to give up too much to prevent a low chance of disapproval. Preferably, I'd like one by Thursday morning or at the least next week.
What matters is (1) your income and (2) what's on your credit history now (not in 2007). You're not going to get one in three days even if your score is 800.
You will not get a card with a debt in collections. The damage to your credit is already done. It is doubtful if you even have credit at this point since your records show you don't pay your bills. A secure card is the only card you could get. You need to deal with the debt you have now before you start making new debt. In no way would you get approved right now. It is tough to believe that those you owe are not already breaking down your door to get their money.
- Should I use my credit card to buy the iPhone X? I'm young and new to credit cards I would like to start building up my credit and I would also like to purchase a new phone since mine is all messed up. I'm wondering if I should pay for the iPhone on full with the credit card and pay the card off. Or pay the monthly payments for about 2 with my credit card and pay it off as I go. Please don't judge me as I'm new to the credit world & thanks in advance for everyone's input.
- ITunes Gift card instead of Credit Card? I found some things that i have been wanting on the iTunes store but i do not have a credit card registered with my account. If i were to buy an iTunes gift card, would that work in lieu of the credit card requirement? Also, the apps that i want to get are for the iPhone. Would buying an app with the gift card affect the plan with the phone in any way?
